Four recent FDA approvals landed between October 2 and October 9, 2026, and each one changes a different decision for a different team. A skin condition that brings up hives wherever you scratch or press now has a treatment approved specifically for it. A blood cancer pill cut the rate of the disease getting worse or causing death by 80% against a standard chemotherapy combination. A schizophrenia injection replaces a daily tablet with one shot a month, and a vitamin K injection for blood clotting problems now has another generic maker in a $52.3 million market.

Teva’s WELTRUZA Offers Schizophrenia Patients a Monthly Injection

The FDA approved WELTRUZA, the first once-monthly subcutaneous injectable olanzapine, for adults with schizophrenia. Teva says daily tablets can be hard for some patients to keep taking, and missed doses raise the risk of relapse.

WELTRUZA needs no loading doses, no tablets alongside it, and no monitoring after each injection. The older long-acting olanzapine injection, Zyprexa Relprevv, is given into the muscle and requires three hours of observation after every dose.

In SOLARIS, an eight-week Phase 3 trial of 675 adults, WELTRUZA beat placebo on symptom and functioning scores. In a post hoc analysis of the open-label phase, 21% of 183 patients treated for six months or more met remission criteria. Teva expects a US launch within weeks.

Lilly’s Jaypirca Moves Into First-Line Treatment for Certain CLL and SLL Patients

On October 2, 2026, the FDA widened the label of Jaypirca (pirtobrutinib) to adults with previously untreated CLL or SLL who have no known 17p deletion. It was approved before only for patients who had already been treated.

In the BRUIN CLL 313 trial, 282 untreated patients received Jaypirca or six cycles of bendamustine plus rituximab. At a median follow-up of 28 months:

  • Progression or death was 80% less likely at any point (hazard ratio 0.20).
  • Progression-free survival at 24 months was 93.4% against 70.7%.
  • Dose reductions were needed in 3.6% of Jaypirca patients against 31.1%.

Complete responses were lower with Jaypirca (13% against 21%), though the overall response rate was higher (94% against 81%). The comparator was chemoimmunotherapy, so head-to-head questions against other BTK inhibitors stay open.

Lupin Wins FDA Approval for a Generic Vitamin K Prefilled Syringe

Lupin announced on October 8, 2026 that the FDA approved its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Phytonadione Injectable Emulsion USP, 1 mg/0.5 mL, in a single-dose prefilled syringe. The FDA found it bioequivalent to the reference drug from International Medication Systems.

Phytonadione is vitamin K1, used to treat and prevent low blood clotting (hypoprothrombinemia) and vitamin K deficiency. IQVIA data put annual US sales at $52.3 million. That is the market size, not Lupin’s revenue, which depends on launch timing, price, and competing makers.

Novartis Rhapsido Becomes the First Approved Treatment for Symptomatic Dermographism

On October 7, 2026, the FDA approved Rhapsido (remibrutinib), an oral BTK inhibitor, for adults with symptomatic dermographism whose symptoms are not controlled by H1 antihistamines. Rhapsido was first approved for chronic spontaneous urticaria and, Novartis says, is now the only prescription treatment approved for both conditions.

In the Phase 3 RemIND trial, patients stayed symptomatic on second-generation antihistamines. At week 12, 29.3% on remibrutinib reached complete response against 14% on placebo. That is a strict endpoint, so about seven in ten did not reach it, though it does not count partial improvement. The label carries a bleeding warning and asks doctors to weigh the risks and benefits of using antithrombotic medicines alongside it.
